Frequently Asked Questions

When can I shower post operatively?

You can shower 2 days after surgery. It is okay for water to run over the incisions, you just can't soak the surgical area until the stitches have been removed. Make sure you dry the surgical area good after your shower.

When can I change my bandages after surgery?

You can change your bandages 2 days after surgery. You do not need to cover with heavy bandages, Band-Aids will be sufficient over the sutures.

How long do I wear the sling after surgery?

This depends on the type of surgery that was performed. If you had a rotator cuff repair or SLAP repair you will be in the sling for 6 weeks. If you had a bicep tenodesis without the rotator cuff repair you will be in the sling for 4 weeks. If the surgery was just a clean-up, you will wear the sling for 2-3 days, only for comfort.

Will pain meds/opioids cause constipation?

Yes, opioids will cause constipation. You will want to purchase an over-the-counter stool softener
